Wednesday morning, Nov. 2/98.

Fine morning & had a good night’s rest. I omitted to record last night that as I was going to the Andorinha by car, a fire on the roof of Union Square Hotel was raging & all the paraphanalia [sic] was about. I did not stop, being anxious to see Albion, otherwise I should have witnessed the incident of a city of N. York fire. I shall be in a position to tell you in my next letter, I think, by which steamer we shall cross in. I must see about this great city & I am anxious to go & see the cities of Washington & Philadelphia, should the weather hold good, & a trip up the Hudson to view the fine scenery, I’m told, lines its great banks. My sweetest love to you all & kisses for my lovely Comely. Give my friends the message of regards, not forgetting Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Bella, Mr. Adamson, Mr. Leask, Greatham folk, & church acquaintances.

For the present. Ta Ta.
