Saturday morning, Sep 10\/98.<\/p>\n

We arrived at Victoria\u00a0last night at 7 after a very slow day\u2019s steaming, frequently stopping.[1]<\/a> I got ashore at 8. Doctor did not arrive for an hour after we were wharfed, to our great annoyance. No-one could leave the ship till he was satisfied the ship held a clean bill of health. We were to sail again at 10:30, so I hurried to Mr. Bennington\u2019s\u00a0uncle, Mr. Wriglesworth, & easily found him & stayed there till 10. It was useless viewing the town as it was dark & too little time. It has been thick fog all night & the passage in fine weather is 6 hours, & it is now 8:30. We are just about entering Vancouver, & I take the opportunity just to write up to date & post this when I get ashore, so that it may go on with our mails. The train for N. York\u00a0leaves at 1 o\u2019clock. I shall stay over Sunday at Vancouver & go on by rail on Monday. We are 2 days overdue now. I shall write you weekly till the week before I ship at New York. I am thinking of coming with a White Star\u00a0liner either last Wednesday, Septr. or 1^{st<\/sup> Wed. October.<\/p>\n}
