Thursday September 1st opened out a very fine morning, rather strong breeze with heavy swell. I find that we\u2019ve been visited with a swarms of mosquitos during our stay in Honolulu & some of them has [sic] feasted royally of me, especially hands & ankles. These parts were exposed during the night as pyjamas only were worn, no bed covering for nights past \u2013 too hot.<\/p>\n

Our position at noon was as follows: Lat. N. 23.36, Long. W. 155.53, run since leaving Honolulu 186 knots, distance to Victoria<\/u> BC, 2,164. This is our [last?] call before getting to Vancouver. If you consult your atlas<\/u>, you will see it is not far from destination. Now also refer to map & you will see we passed out of the Tropic of Cancer before noon. The tropics lay between 23.28 N. & 23.28 S., so every turn of the propeller drives us into gradually cooler climate, & it will, I venture to say, for all be welcomed. I\u2019ve now crossed the Equator twice & I shall always remember the heat.<\/p>\n

The sea continued wavy all day. Very few of the passengers who joined us at Honolulu has made their appearance yet, nor won\u2019t do for 2 or 3 days. This is quite usual. A musical evening closed the day & I \u201cturned in\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
