Wednesday morning, Sep. 21st/98 (Mary’s birthday, memorable day).
Got up at 6 & had a look across at the falls. Sun hadn’t got out but it was a fine sight. I rested again till 7:15 & then the outlook was grand indeed.
[7:26]
I dressed & had breakfast, after which I ascended by the “lift” to the roof &, oh, what a delightful view looking down upon the falls, Horseshoe, bridge, river & across to the American side, lovely in every sense, a perfect morning, & tho’ so high up, the spray is even floating in the air & very perceptible. I fancy I gave you the area as approximate to Hartlepool harbour, rather large. All seems so near & in so small an area, tho’ so enormously great are the objects, such a feast for the eyes. Now I’m going to do more viewing & about noon take electric car for Buffalo, about 40 minutes’ run.
